Wrath of the Lamb

Revelation 6:14-17: “Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place.15 And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains,16 and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!17 "For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?"

Long-gone are the days of the hell-fire and brimstone preachers, who would preach with intensity because they were concerned for the lost of this world. They did not just preach loud and obnoxious like some we have seen, just to make a show. No, their passionate preaching was for the lost and dying world that would receive a punishment worse that that which is recorded in these beginning chapters of Revelation. Hell-fire and brimstone does not make for good TV, and does not sell many books; however, we have a lost and dying world going to hell and there needs to be a warning. We preach and share the good news of the Gospel of Jesus because we do not want to have anyone suffer the final judgment of hell. For thousands of years God’s word and His ministers have been warning this world of the wrath to come.

The wrath of God is not partial to anyone no matter who you are. This scripture in chapter six says kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains. The wrath of God is terrible and great. Those who are not of the Lamb’s fold will be thrust into panic and despair. Some say the judgments that are foretold in Revelation are metaphorical, that however is not the case. These terrible things will happen and will happen with the force and destruction that only God can pour out on a wicked world. All throughout history, God has been calling to this world, to just repent from their ways and turn to His gift that He sent to this world. This gift was Jesus.

The global leaders of that day, the ones who have trusted in themselves and the power they wield will be useless. These individuals will crawl into caves and rocks to hide from the coming judgment, and there will be no comfort or relief. The material possessions that they have accumulated will be of no use and will not impress anyone. There will be utter doom. What are we to do? Put your trust in Jesus. Surrender your life to Him. For the Christ-follower we have no worries. The only task that we have is to represent Jesus in our lives to a lost world. We have no need to fear death, for Jesus took away the sting of death for the last time. We must share our faith to this world because judgment is coming. With intensity and passion we must communicate to others that they have a choice in these last days. Imagine your neighbor’s house was on fire, and you know they were in there. Would you let the house burn and not do anything to help? Look around, for your neighbor’s house is on fire! What will you do?
