Go therefore

Matt 28:18: “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.”

God does not just save you so that you can sit on a pew, tithe, and sing songs to Him. He saves us for a purpose. That purpose is seen right here in this scripture. Jesus does not want you to only have a changed life, He wants you to go and facilitate change in other people’s lives. We are called to go forth, radically into the entire world bringing the message of the good news. This lifestyle is not just for a select few, it is for all who trust in the Lord. If you are not making a difference in this world for Jesus then you are shortchanging Jesus and yourself.

As Jesus was preparing His disciples to go into the world, to bring the Gospel to the world, He gave them a direction and a goal. He said that all power and authority was His, and because of that, He sends those who follow Him into this world to share this awesome gift of God’s love. The life that a Christ-follower is to live is not that of quiet desperation, it is to be that of advancing the cause of Christ. If you are not going to take this world for Jesus then you never achieve God’s ultimate goal for your life. The life of the Christ-follower is not a life of comfort and ease; it is a costly mission that makes us press on toward the mark of the upward call.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations”, means that we are to attack this world with the gospel and progress the efforts of Jesus. When soldiers land on a beachhead, they do not sit down and enjoy the surf, they press forward taking the beach inch by inch, always advancing until they can obtain the position that their commander told them to get. We are call to advance the beachhead for Jesus; never looking back and never letting the enemy stop us. We are the soldiers in the army of the Lord and our battle cry must be like the Infantry “Follow Me”. You not only can make a difference in the world, you are commanded to.
