Time to fight?

Jude 3-4: “Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. 4 For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.”

We are often considered fanatics or freaks if we voice our concerns with any fervency or passion. We are looked upon as being “too Christian” or over the top. The fact remains that I can believe what I want as long as I do not tell anyone about my belief. If my praying in public offends someone then the world say I no longer have the right to do that thing because “it is offensive”. However, when I speak out against things that offend me such as, sex outside of marriage, or my feeling that abortion is the taking of a human life, then this world says I am going too far. The Bible we read as Christ-followers tells us to stand up and fight against false teachings and destructive behaviors. We are not just called to do it, we are commanded to do it. Jude takes it even a step farther, when he says, “And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.” We are commanded to pull people from the fire, of Hell, at times with fear. That is standing by our beliefs with conviction and passion.

For the Christian this is serious business. When false teachings creep into our folds we need to “contend” with them. When this world spreads lies and destructive behavior we are to warn those who are being seduced. We need to fight for souls and enter into spiritual battle with this world and rebel against the momentary pleasures of this world. Money, sex, and power do not fill that need that is in your hearts. Just ask the celebrities in the news today who try to fill their lives with everything except Jesus. They are going to be unsatisfied until they get right with God. Until you surrender your life to Jesus you will go through this world seeking and searching for happiness when all you need is Joy. That Joy comes from a surrendered life.

Christian, put your armor on and go to battle. Fight for the truth and do not be afraid of what this world can do to you because, “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4
