Spend your Father's inheritance

Ephesians 1:15-19: “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength.”

One thing that is needed in a successful and harmonious relationship is getting to know the other person better, whether the relationship is a marriage, friendship, or our relationship with God. Our goal is to know God better. Paul opens this letter to the Ephesians by praying that God would give them a Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that they could know God more. This wonderful journey of faith is an ongoing walk with our God. This journey is a relationship that blossoms and grows over time. As we grow our knowledge and understanding of God develops. Paul wanted the believers in Ephesus to Grow in their knowledge of God. The more we get closer to God the more we become Christ-like. Our goal is to seek God with all our strength. I will get to know God better when I read his word, pray, seek fellowship with other believers, and obey what God tells me to do.

Paul goes on to write that, “the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe.” Being a child of God, we have access to the Godly inheritance. This glorious inheritance goes beyond the heavenly realm. This glorious inheritance is seen in the everyday life of the Christ-follower. Yes, we have the riches of heaven waiting for us when the Lord calls us home; however, we do not have to wait for the inheritance. We benefit from that glorious inheritance right now. We as Christ-followers live an abundant life that was promised by Jesus (John 10:10). This abundant life is a life of Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-control. That is the ultimate display of the Holy Spirit in a Christ-follower’s life. We have an inheritance that we can benefit from right now. It is the Glorious inheritance in Christ Jesus.
