The world's wisdom

1 Cor. 3:18-19: “Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their own craftiness"”

We have gotten very confident in the world that we have built. No, I do not mean physical world of course. I mean the things around us that we control; “our world”. The government we have made, the schools that our children go to, the T.V. we watch, the businesses we patronize, the political parties that we support, and the leisure activities that we engage in. We, as a society are extremely proud of what we have accomplished. America is proud of the environmental concerns that we are focusing on, and we are proud at how we are doing our part in cleaning up this world. We are going “green” and we think that we have done something grand.

This country has changed in many ways. We went from being a country that stood up for the weak, oppressed, and voiceless to a country where we kill more and more babies each day. Who will be their voice? We are proud that we have taken God out of our schools, for why should any child be subjected to a prayer to God in order to make sure God will keep them safe that day? Yet we have more and more school shootings today then anytime in history. We have a motto that states, “In God We Trust”, and yet we can get sued because we mention God. This is our wisdom.

Paul is stating here the fact that the wisdom of the world is foolishness in the eyes of God. If we being Christ-followers do not see the foolishness of this world, we will be as deceived as the world. Instead of “going green” we as a people need to “Go red”, red as the blood of Jesus. That is the cure for this world. If we start seeing ourselves as God sees us and start seeing the world as He sees it then we will start making a difference in this world. When we agree with God that sin is sin then we can start getting on track again. However, if we continue to endorse and promote sin and ungodly behavior, then we will end up forsaken by God. We say, "God Bless the United States of America", but my question is “why should He?”

Application
– Do not be fooled by the world’s wisdom
Challenge – Be in this world, but not of this world.
